Using GnuPG, simply download the Samba source distribution, the tarball signature, and the Samba distribution public key. Then run $ gpg -import samba-pubkey.asc $ gunzip samba- version.tar.gz $ gpg -verify samba- release.tar.asc gpg: Signature made Tue 20 Nov 2007 07:12:04 PM CST using DSA key ID 6568B7EA gpg: Good signature from 'Samba Distribution Verification Key ‹[email protected]›. Mac OS X has a built in CIFS/SMB client. You can use Finder - Go - Connect to Server. smb://workgroup;username:[email protected]/sharename Windows should be able to access volumes that you have enabled via System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing.
We have file perm issues with our SAN. Basically our SAN doesnt like SMB 2 from our Macs, so we use SMB 1 (slower, but less corrupty..). We are moving away from this SAN shortly though.
I ensure this command is ran on all of our clients (either on the base image, deployment workflow or sent our via ARD terminal command)
sudo sh -c 'echo '[default]' >> /etc/nsmb.conf; echo 'smb_neg=smb2_only' >> /etc/nsmb.conf'
this forces SMB2 on the client
you can then view the share connection with this command:
![]()
smbutil statshares -a
Mac Connect To Smb Server
which shows what flavour of SMB is being used.
To remove the nsb.conf file and revert back to defaults, use this command :

Apple product teams do not participate here, so getting in-depth wisdom on macOS Sierra's ability to deal with the Synology RackStation SMB3 multi-channel support may be restricted to someone that has practical usage experience — if the macOS capability actually exists.

I have read your post, and entire threads at this site. I have also noted that your Startech USB-C (5ghz) to dual-Gigabit Ethernet adapter does not state support for 802.3ad (link aggregation) — and that may/may not present an issue for you. I also am not certain to what extent multi-homing could be of benefit, where you tell the Synology that you are presenting two different IP addresses from the Mac side, and then run the SMB3 to both addresses.
My understanding is that macOS Sierra will auto-detect SMB3, but as one reviews the associated SMB related man pages, there is no obvious, updated reference to multi-channel support (even in the nsmb.conf man page). Apple has rolled their own SMB support, and may be holding back on this multi-channel support until it matures. https://ozdann.weebly.com/blog/keykey-mac-app-2018.
